Ethnik Afrika: Arewa Saddle Crossbody Bag with Black Leather
$ 288.16Our culture plays a major role in inspiring our designs and what we create. Every part of our home country Nigeria has a unique culture and traditions that we are able to re interpret in our design, that is the beauty of Nigeria and our continent Africa as a whole.
Northern Nigeria is diverse and rich in culture, with some Arabian and Islamic influences. The Tangaran caps popularly called the Hausa caps are a major part of that culture amongst the Northern Nigerian men. These caps are meticulously and intricately handwoven by the finest weavers, which has made the caps so popular even amongst other cultures in Nigeria and around the world.
The Tangaran caps have inspired our new Aso oke fabric designs, taking inspiration from the visual language of these artisanal beauties, made by Northern craftsmen, who pour their hearts into creating these masterpieces that we have woven into Asooke, and made into beautiful bags.

Ethnik Afrika: Blue Gangan (Talking Drum) Bag
$ 311.52A tribute to the talking drum. Gangan is our first androgynous bag. It is beautifully made with leather and Asooke fabric, mimicking in design the West African talking drum. The talking drum is one of the symbols of the old African tradition, an instrument of music indigenous especially to the Yoruba culture that cuts across western Nigeria onto other parts of West Africa. The talking drum is more than just a cultural artifact or a musical instrument. The talking drum has served a deeper purpose over the years, a purpose such as communication which with the advancement of technology and the improvement in communication principles“ cellphones, internet etc, has slowly dissipated into misty myth and legend. The talking drum as its name implies is made to mimic the human speech. There is no west African music without the talking drum and that means there is no celebration without the Gangan.
